The Invisible Footprint x Pelican Japan

Safeguarding professional cinema gear across Japan’s diverse environments.

Hi,

I’m Dylan Machi. I am a photojournalist, commercial filmmaker, and founder of MachiMoments LLC. Over the past several years, I’ve produced visual stories for commercial brands, university’s, and tourism boards, focusing on raw human experiences and dynamic field environments.

I have just relocating to Tokyo to complete my final university semester as an exchange scholar at Chuo University (Tama Campus), studying sustainable tourism, cultural preservation, and global media.

The Documentary: The Invisible Footprint

The Invisible Footprint is a short cinematic documentary examining tourism in Japan and the evolving relationship between international travelers, local communities, and fragile cultural sites.

The project explores the tension between popular tourist centers (like Tokyo and Kyoto) and the quieter, rural regions where authentic cultural heritage thrives. Over a 6-month research and production schedule while stationed at Chuo University, the narrative follows real artisans, local workers, and remote field sites across the country.

  • Production Distribution: Direct festival release alongside a full YouTube premiere, behind-the-scenes travel series, and social content ecosystem tailored for English-speaking creators and travelers visiting Japan.

Partnership Positioning & Strategy

  • Primary Target Audience: English-speaking creators, photojournalists, and filmmakers traveling to Japan whose camera kits exceed standard backpack limits.

  • Core Narrative: Beyond Tokyo & Kyoto — protecting sensitive gear while venturing into remote regions, small craft villages, and transit hubs.

  • Youth & Traveler Angle: Direct organic reach into inbound student, Gen-Z, and digital nomad travel demographics moving through Japan.
